Re: Your latest game acquisitions! Pt. 1
Hello all, I haven't been on the forum for a very long time.
Well I have recently purchased Ultima 6 the False Prophet complete, I am just waiting for Paypal to complete the money transfer.
I am considering of getting Ultima 7 Complete (Black Gate, Serpent Island, and all the expansions) later this year.
Several other games I would like to get are The Terminator (1990), The Terminator Rampage, Star Trek 25th Anniversary/Judgment Rites (I already have the White Label versions but I want the originals), and a game I discovered today called The Hidden Below (a sort of Wolfenstein Clone)
Several others on my list are Psycho World and Sword of Legend Lenam for the MSX2 and Gloom Deluxe for the Amiga.
But to be honest, I am worried that I might want to spend way to much on games I simply want to own and not necessarily play (again) and that seems a waste of money I might as well use for other things.
Its not just old home computer games I would like to pick up, but also some games for the Commodore 64 that have only been made in the last ten years such as Joe Gunn, The Wild Bunch, Knigh 'n Grail, and Sub Hunter.
Not so much as to want to play them but just to own them.
I think this kind of mentality is not so healthy any more these days, but I still can't set the thought to get these easily aside.
I have been trying to sell some of my old games to make room for new games and to get some money so that I do not have to take it from my savings, but there is so little demand for them I might as well put them with the trash, despite that they are almost all in the same state that as I bought them.

Re: Your latest game acquisitions! Pt. 1
JC = Jewel Case
DC(+M) = DVD-Case (+ printed Manual)
My list, beginning with the latest:
While reading some forum thread about the latest publications in the 4x genre, I realised I missed out on some good games; I hadn't followed this genre since Master of Orion 2.
- Galactic Civilizations 2 - Ultimate Edition (DC+M)
- Space Empires V (DC+M, includes a tech-tree poster, which is moot due to modding... ) Strangely enough, this game managed to keep me interested for far longer than the much more popular GalCiv II.
- Crusader Kings + Deus Vult, Complete Pack (DC) I play this with DVIP and a neat graphics set that replaces most in-game graphics with details of medieval paintings. Pop in some medieval music, light a candle, and you're in ducal wonderland.
- Stalker - Clear Sky (DC + M) After having completed Shadow Of Chernobyl once more with that one huge supermod (the name is evading me right now), I thought I might give Clear Sky a go, after all this time the game should be patched up properly and a wide array of mods should be available. Well, I was a bit underwhelmed. Shadow Of Chernobyl is still the better game.
- Splinter Cell - Chaos Theory (JC) Picked it up from a bargain bin for 2.50€
Had a little subsim vibe some time ago:
- Silent Hunter III (JC) After all the time that this game was out already, I had a nice array of mod packs to choose from. Was a worthwhile tenner.
- Dangerous Waters (DC + M) Fascinating. Too bad I have noone in my circle of acquaintances who is interested in giving this cool multiplayer mode where you play cooperatively on one sub, each player manning a station, a try.

Re: Your latest game acquisitions! Pt. 1
I'm trying to restrain my buyings, but I fell for:
Arx Fatalis
Empire & Conquest
Flight Simulator 2002 (What's new with this version?)
Freedom Force vs. The Third Reich
Morrowind (The Elder Scrolls)
Racing Simulation 3
Shattered Union
Space Empires V
State of War
The Titans (Age of Mythology's expansion)
Tomb Raider - Legend
Train Simulator (I can't understand the interest of simulating a train!)
Universe at War
Virtual Skipper 4 (The only interest of simulating a ship is the race mode
XIII (a game based upon a belgian comic, in french)
WorldShift
... and only one of these games (State of War) can run on my old comp ;o)
I got all of them brand new (still sealled) except one (The Titans) and for less than 3€ each.

Telltale's Strongbad season one for five dollars on Steam.
Was never a fan of Homestar Runner, but the other Telltale games I've played are pretty funny and high quality, and FIVE DOLLARS, worth it.

Re: Your latest game acquisitions! Pt. 1
Here you have my summer purchases: only 'recent' games... recent enough for my old comp can't run them... but "Hope keeps you alive" (as it's said in french
- HEROES OF MIGHT & MAGIC V: Since I already have the 4 previous games of the series (plus a few of extensions), I felt forced in buying it, too I hope this new version will be somewhat innovating, because I was begining to be bored with the series.
- CIV CITY - ROME: One of the first PC game I played was SIM CITY, then I alighted on a 'Romanum Simus Civitae' I mean CAESAR (by Sierra) and its sequels, such as PHARAOH, ZEUS...). Now, I discoverted that Sid Meier (the civilizations builder, the colony manager, the railroad networks designer) has entered the City Builders' range. This is dangerous for him: his work has to face the comparison, meanwhile his other games were 'pathfinders', opened new areas to video game designers (and I've to vow his golf-course management game's preview let me somewhat disappointed). Did anyone here play Civ City - Rome?
- COMMANDER - EUROPE AT WAR: A wide scale wargame by Slitherine (2008). I chose it because I prefer the strategy to the tactic scale, and because on the package's back it's told the player can edit the game's script (I like meddling with parametring files
Oh, I forgot to mention I refused to buy a game at a store because it was really outdated: as far as I remember, the hardware requirements were an IBM PC-386 33MHz !!! This mean the games (not just one item!) were on the shelves for more than 15 years and they never thought of lowering the price. I remember I saw them in 2001 and I thought their were already too expensive... and I wasn't the only one...

well, it seems to me it is your utmost duty to enlighten the shopkeeper of his grave error. maybe you could ask him why, in his opinion, is it that these games are resting on the shelves for decades.
oh, and I got MoH: Airborne on some fleamarket for 5 eurons. mint condition.

Don't worry about that, I did so once: no result. Then I did so a second time when I got a job in the shop: no more result.
The local shop manager cannot take the decision of changing the prices, only the national direction (C.E.O. in english ?)
In an other shop, I told the shop manager his latest game in a cardboard package was occupying a shelf alone, meanwhile the other games (in DVD-like packages) were crowded on the other shelf, and this old game will be difficult to sell. So he just offered me the game. My cheapest acquisition!
My latest acquisition?: SUPREME COMMANDER (about robots and war in the future...).

Found an awesome 3 pack containing Patrician 3, Port Royale 2 and Tortuga for about 8 dollars. Patrician or Port Royale by themselves are 10 bucks on GOG.
Definitely a great deal.

I don't usually bother buying old games anymore, but I couldn't pass The Neverhood (CIB) at the local flea market.
Paid 5 Swedish crowns for it, which is about 55 eurocents.

Would love to find Ultima 5 and the cluebook to Darklands, but other than that, I am happy at the moment playing the Darklands game!
